The Kansas School Public Relations Association (KanSPRA) is a nonprofit, professional organization dedicated to promoting public schools through effective communications. The organization, which was founded in 1973, now serves over 120 members. KanSPRA is comprised primarily of public information and communications professionals who serve the public school districts and education organizations of Kansas. The membership also includes staff that supports our public schools, superintendents, school administrators, executive directors, web/technology/electronic media and graphic professionals, school consultants, vendors and others who support public education in the state.

With a strong belief in the power of public education, KanSPRA's mission is:
To create an atmosphere of public trust and understanding by leading, counseling and influencing attitudes and behavior in support of Kansas public education.

KanSPRA's goals have evolved in tandem with the field of school district communications. Today, many school districts employ one or more communications professionals to oversee its day-to-day communications needs. From media relations and advocacy efforts to crisis communications and social media, school communicators must be proficient in a myriad of strategies and tactics to support an increasingly wide range of subject areas and hot-button issues. The need to have a communications professional on staff is clearer today than ever before.

KanSPRA provides professional development, resources and networking opportunities for our members and others in the education community. The association also collaborates with other organizations whose goals are in harmony with our mission statement. KanSPRA, an incorporated, non-profit 501(c)(3) education association, is governed by a board made up of elected officers and appointed positions. Only KanSPRA members may hold office and vote.
